A 38-year-old man was arrested early Thursday after threatening and insulting officers of the National Republican Guard (GNR) in Guimarães.
The Braga Territorial Command explained that the incident occurred around 2:45 AM when the GNR patrol was called to the Selho S. Jorge parish due to “noise” made by several individuals near a café.
Upon arrival, officers approached some drivers near the establishment who were already on the public road.
The GNR pursued a vehicle through several streets of the locality, noting that the driver “ignored several traffic signs” to “evade inspection.”
Because of the man’s “very dangerous driving,” the GNR signaled him to pull over, which he did “after several hundred meters.”
After stopping the vehicle, the man threatened and insulted the patrol on the scene, displaying “aggressive” behavior. It was further noted that the man committed a severe offense due to his blood alcohol level.
The situation also revealed that the driver did not have car insurance, leading to his notification to appear at the Guimarães Court to learn the appropriate precautionary measures.
