The Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, spoke after meeting with the President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, at São Bento. Prior to this meeting, President Chapo had met with Portugal’s Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the Belém Palace.

In his brief remarks following the bilateral meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that Portugal’s priority is to establish “an inclusive political dialogue with the President of Mozambique, aiming to strengthen political, institutional, cultural, and economic cooperation ties.”

“We are at the beginning of the political cycle initiated with the election of President Daniel Chapo, and likewise, at the start of the cycle initiated with the re-election of the current Portuguese government. Therefore, we are in a position to lend new energy to the relationship between the governments, countries, and peoples of Portugal and Mozambique,” stated Luís Montenegro.

In this context, the Portuguese leader announced that during the conversation with Daniel Chapo, it was decided to hold the VI Summit between Portugal and Mozambique.

“We have tentatively scheduled for the upcoming days of December 8 and 9. There is no better expression of this desire to give new impetus to our relations than resuming these bilateral summits,” he added.

According to the Prime Minister, at this summit, which will take place in Portugal, the two countries will seek to further develop cooperation tools in areas such as health, education, mobility, security, and defense.
