The driver for the president of Loulé City Council died in a traffic accident this Thursday, prompting the municipality to issue a statement of condolence. The council expressed its regret and extended condolences to the bereaved family, highlighting the deceased’s exceptional professionalism and character.
“The death of Luís Faísca Gonçalves leaves a trail of grief and sorrow within this large family of municipal employees, especially affecting its president who shared a particularly special bond with him,” the council leaders noted in the statement published on their website.
Jornal de Notícias reported that the accident occurred at a city roundabout when Luís Faísca Gonçalves’ vehicle was struck by a truck. The publication indicated that Gonçalves’ vehicle was stationary at the time of the collision.
The same statement highlighted that the victim, aged 78, resided in the parish of Salir, where he was originally from.
“Luís Faísca Gonçalves had been an employee of Loulé City Council since 1994, working within the Transport Division as the driver for former council president Joaquim Vairinhos, and subsequently for president Vítor Aleixo,” the note reads, adding that “Throughout his career at Loulé Council, Luís Faísca Gonçalves honored and enriched the institution with his expertise and dedication, as well as his congeniality with colleagues and leaders alike.”
