European association A4E standardizes the size of free cabin baggage

The European airline association, Airlines for Europe (A4E), has standardized the size of free carry-on luggage that is typically placed under the front seat at 40 × 30 × 15 cm, according to a statement.

This measure aligns with a decision made by the European Union (EU) Transport Ministers on June 5 regarding air passenger rights.

Airlines must provide clear information about the authorized object’s dimensions, in an accessible format, including the maximum dimensions and weight of baggage allowed in the cabin.

The Portuguese airline TAP, along with low-cost carriers Easyjet and Ryanair, are members of A4E.

The European decision follows a ruling by the EU Court of Justice, which declared that the transport of carry-on luggage cannot incur an additional charge, provided it meets reasonable requirements in terms of weight and size and complies with applicable safety standards.
