Unemployment rate drops to 6.3% in the eurozone and 5.9% in the EU in May

In the euro area, the unemployment indicator experienced a slight decrease compared to the 6.4% recorded year-on-year, and a slight increase from the 6.2% observed in April.

According to the European statistical service, in the EU, the indicator slowed to 5.9%, down from 6.0% in May 2024, remaining stable on a monthly basis.

In May, there were 13.052 million unemployed people in the EU, of whom 10.830 million were in the euro area.

Spain continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the EU at 10.8%, followed by Finland at 9.0% and Sweden at 8.7%.

The lowest rates were found in Malta at 2.7%, the Czech Republic at 2.8%, and Poland at 3.3%.

In Portugal, the unemployment rate stood at 6.3%, aligning with the eurozone.
