The IPMA has placed nearly all municipalities in the 18 districts of mainland Portugal at very high to high risk. According to the institute’s calculations, the risk of rural fires remains high in certain districts for the coming days.
This risk level, set by the IPMA, ranges from low to maximum and is determined by factors such as air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and rainfall from the previous 24 hours.
The website of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) indicates that there have been 2,720 fire occurrences since the beginning of the year, with 7,846 hectares burned in rural areas.
Due to ongoing hot weather, the IPMA has issued a yellow warning for the districts of Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Beja, and Évora until 6 PM today and for Bragança, Guarda, and Vila Real until 9 PM today.
The yellow warning, the least severe, is issued by the IPMA when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on weather conditions.
