The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Évora announced in a statement on its website that during the relationship, which began in 2019, the defendant “mistreated the victim through physical and psychological aggression.”
“The incidents of violence increased in intensity and frequency in recent days, with the defendant attempting to strangle and threatening to kill the victim as well as her son,” it highlighted.
The Prosecutor’s Office noted that the alleged mistreatment occurred in various locations where both lived, but the most recent events took place in Vimieiro, in the municipality of Arraiolos.
The man was arrested following the issuance of warrants outside of a flagrante delicto situation and, after appearing for an initial judicial interrogation on Thursday, was placed in preventive detention.
The investigations are continuing under the guidance of the 2nd specialized section of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) of Évora, with the assistance of the GNR.
