Attempts to attack PSP in row over payment for support in reception center

A 31-year-old man was detained on July 1 after attempting to assault officers from the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) who were called to a disturbance at the Refugee Reception Center in Bobadela, Loures. The former resident objected to “the manner in which he received part of his financial support.”

Authorities were called by the institution’s staff due to “disorder being caused by a former resident of the facility.”

The officers were informed that the altercation stemmed from the suspect’s dissatisfaction with the way he received his financial support, and he was removed from the premises for disturbing normal operations and being verbally aggressive, according to a PSP statement obtained by Notícias ao Minuto on Friday.

Shortly after police left the scene, officers were once again alerted to the individual’s presence. The man reacted against the police and attempted to “assault an officer.”

“He was promptly restrained and detained, and a kitchen knife was found in his backpack,” the statement read.

The individual was brought before judicial authorities and is now subject to daily check-ins and prohibited from approaching the Reception Center.

This operation was conducted by the Command of the Lisbon Metropolitan PSP, through the Loures Police Division.
