Miguel Albuquerque mourns the death of “dear friend” Luís Jardim

The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, expressed sorrow on Friday over the death of “dear friend” Luís Jardim. The Madeiran musician and music producer passed away today on his 75th birthday.

“It is with deep sadness that I bid farewell to my dear friend Luís Jardim. A native of Madeira, Luís was much more than a brilliant musician and music producer; he was a generous, talented, and inspiring person,” wrote Miguel Albuquerque in a statement on Facebook.

Albuquerque emphasized having had the “privilege of sharing moments” with the producer and witnessing the “impact he left on the world of music, both in Portugal and abroad.”

“Luís now lives in the melodies he left us and the memories I hold with immense gratitude. He is gone, but he will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace,” he lamented.

Luís Alberto Figueira Gonçalves Jardim was born on July 4, 1950, on the island of Madeira. In the 1960s, he was part of Demónios Negros, and in the following decade, he formed the band Rouge in England, which sold millions of records.

The music producer worked with internationally renowned artists such as David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, George Michael, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Elton John, Julio Iglesias, Cindy Lauper, Michael Bolton, Gloria Estefan, and Michael Jackson.

In Portugal, he produced records for several artists, including Rui Veloso and João Pedro Pais, and served as a judge on various talent shows such as ‘Ídolos,’ ‘Uma Canção Para Ti,’ and ‘A Tua Cara Não Me É Estranha.’
