A 21-year-old foreign national was arrested on Thursday in Lisbon on suspicion of committing “a crime of sexual abuse of a person incapable of resisting,” police authorities announced.
The victim is identified as a “16-year-old minor.” The teenager was reportedly approached in a public place during a night out where alcohol was consumed, and the suspect allegedly committed the sexual abuses.
The police became aware of the incident and promptly conducted urgent investigative procedures, leading to the identification, location, and arrest of the suspect, who was preparing to leave the country.
The suspect, a foreign citizen reported missing in his home country, is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary judicial interrogation regarding the imposition of preventive measures this Friday.
Under Portuguese Penal Code, engaging in a significant sexual act with an unconscious person or someone incapable, for any reason, of resistance, taking advantage of their state or incapacity, is punishable by imprisonment ranging from six months to eight years.
