Funchal Port Authority issues strong wind warning for Madeira

The Funchal Port Authority has issued a strong wind warning for the maritime area of the Madeira archipelago, effective until 6:00 PM on Sunday.

This warning is based on information from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

Strong winds continue to impact operations at Madeira’s International Airport, located in the municipality of Santa Cruz, on the eastern side of the island.

The ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal website indicates that four flights have been canceled, comprising both arrivals and departures, with two flights having been rerouted.

Since the beginning of the week, over 60 flights have been canceled.

The Funchal Port Authority urges the maritime community and the general public to take precautions when going to sea and in coastal areas, such as reinforcing mooring of docked and anchored vessels, avoiding walks in areas exposed to sea agitation, and refraining from leisure fishing near cliffs and cliff areas.
