The warning, issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), has been in effect since Saturday. On that day, strong winds led to the cancellation of approximately 20 flights, both arrivals and departures, at Madeira International Airport — Cristiano Ronaldo, located in the municipality of Santa Cruz, on the eastern side of the island.
According to information available on the website of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, the operation is proceeding normally this morning, with only one arrival and one departure canceled by 11:00.
Since June 30, more than 70 flights have been canceled at Madeira International Airport due to strong winds.
Following the extension of the warning, the Port Authority of Funchal advises the maritime community and the general public to take precautions when preparing for sea activities and in coastal areas. This includes reinforcing the mooring of docked and anchored vessels, avoiding walks in areas exposed to maritime agitation, and refraining from leisure fishing near cliffs and steep coastal areas.
