
“It was a collision followed by a crash, at kilometer 198 of the A1, after Mealhada, at the entrance to Coimbra,” specified Nuno João, the commander of the Mealhada Volunteer Firefighters, to the Lusa news agency.
According to him, the accident resulted in one fatality, an 88-year-old man, and two minor injuries – a 77-year-old woman who was in the same car and a man around 30 years old from the second vehicle.
“The A1 was never closed or restricted as the vehicles were off the road,” stated Commander Nuno João.
According to the Coimbra Regional Sub-command of Civil Protection, the alert was received at 07:18, and more than 20 personnel were deployed to the scene, supported by 10 vehicles from the Mealhada and Pampilhosa Volunteer Firefighters, the National Republican Guard (GNR), and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).
