Fire in Ponte de Lima under control and being resolved

The fire that raged with three fronts in the parish of Navió and Vitorino dos Piães, in Ponte de Lima, was declared under control at 11:30 PM this Sunday, according to the Sub-Regional Command of Alto Minho.

The sub-regional command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) confirmed that in combating the fire, which broke out in a bush area in Carreiras, parish of Navió and Vitorino de Piães, municipality of Ponte de Lima, district of Viana do Castelo, near midnight, 128 firefighters were still involved, supported by 42 vehicles.

The alert for the incident was raised at 1:36 PM on Sunday, and due to strong winds, reinforcements were necessary throughout the afternoon, mobilizing over a hundred operatives and six aerial units, the source added.

When questioned about the threat to homes, the source explained that it is a rural area with scattered residences, noting that one abandoned house burned down during the afternoon.

At the time when the fire was already being brought under resolution, the regional source of the ANEPC stated that no further damages to homes or injuries had been recorded.
