“The Minister of Health, under these circumstances, should have already informed the country that a complete audit will be conducted and consequences will follow,” emphasized André Ventura. “What we heard was the minister stating that, once the reports from the General Inspectorate of Health Activities arrived, consequences would be drawn.”
Upon attending the presentation of Chega’s municipal candidates in the Coimbra district this afternoon, Ventura stated that those reports have arrived and “point to the responsibility of the Ministry of Health,” however, they “draw no consequences.”
“Therefore, it is a situation of absolute impunity and complete lack of control,” he added.
The Chega leader insisted that the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, “must, once and for all, assume her share of responsibility, which is significant.”
“The INEM needs an audit to determine where it is failing and why we lack the necessary resources in various parts of the country,” he argued.
He believes that if the country spent less on state organizations “that serve no purpose” and if investments were made in health where it is most needed, it would be possible “to have much better healthcare.”
Speaking to journalists, André Ventura also said that Prime Minister Luís Montenegro should focus on this INEM audit and “demonstrate that what is wrong must be changed.”
“It is not just the Minister of Health who is at fault. She is indeed and should have been replaced a long time ago. We have a group of leaders who, as the news has been showing, neither have the status nor the competence to manage health matters,” he claimed.
According to the Chega leader, no additional investment in healthcare is necessary.
“We need better management of health services and quicker management decisions,” he concluded.
