A man was arrested by the Évora Police Division for domestic violence against his father on Monday, as reported by the authorities.
The police stated that since May, there had been an ongoing investigation into a domestic violence case, in which the man “repeatedly threatened and insulted” his father.
“During the inquiry, the threats became increasingly frequent and severe, culminating in an assault [this Monday] using a cane on the victim’s face,” the statement read.
Upon arrival at the scene, the domestic violence team verified the situation and, “with sufficient evidence, requested the Criminal Police Authority to issue an arrest warrant outside of immediate arrest circumstances, resulting in the individual’s detention.”
The man appeared for his initial judicial hearing the following day, Tuesday, at the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) in Évora, where he was placed in preventive detention, the most severe precautionary measure.
“The PSP of Évora believes that this arrest safeguarded the physical integrity and life of this victim,” emphasized the district police command.
