The document allocates funds to 25 local health units (ULS) and the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Porto, amounting to a total of €199,143,261.
The list attached to the decree from the Ministries of Finance and Health reveals that the ULS of Coimbra receives the largest amount, €39.7 million, followed by ULS of Lisbon Ocidental (€25 million), ULS of Algarve (€20.3 million), and ULS of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (€14 million).
Together, these four local health units will receive €99 million of the nearly €200 million designated in the decree for settling payments overdue by more than 90 days related to the acquisition of medicines and medical devices from external suppliers.
Conversely, the ULS of the Leiria Region, receiving just over €68,000, and the ULS of the Aveiro Region, allocated €650,000, are set to receive the least funding for debt payments.
On Tuesday, a statement from the two ministries indicated that this measure strengthens the sustainability of the National Health Service (SNS), and its execution will be monitored and overseen by the Central Administration of the Health System and the General Inspectorate of Finance, “through rigorous mechanisms that ensure transparency and proper management of the allocated funds.”
“This is a continuous effort to guarantee the provision of high-quality healthcare accessible to all citizens and to ensure commitments to all the companies that daily safeguard the supply of goods and services necessary for the proper functioning of the SNS,” the government stated.
