A mother with a one-year-old daughter was evicted from her home in Quinta do Mocho, Sacavém, in the municipality of Loures, on Wednesday morning while she took her child to daycare. The incident was reported by an employee from a local daycare center attended by the baby.
The source recounted that the mother dropped off her daughter and returned home to find the door locked, prompting her to return to the school in tears.
“She left the baby and when she returned home, the police and city council had closed the door,” the employee stated.
The worker further explained that “this happens every week.” “Every week there are evictions. They come, lock the door with belongings inside, and people can’t do anything,” she added.
The employee noted that “dozens of homes” are “closed, with iron gates installed,” and pointed out that many are people “up to date with rent.”
“This can’t continue, someone must do something,” she emphasized.
Regarding the displaced mother and daughter, the employee highlighted that “the only alternative is the Casa da Cultura,” adding that they were attempting to establish contact.
Notícias ao Minuto reached out to Loures Municipal Council to understand what response they have for such cases, and is awaiting a reply.
Last month, the movement Vida Justa reported that eviction orders were issued to 200 families in the municipal housing neighborhood of Quinta do Mocho, noting that “daily evictions” were occurring.
In a statement, Vida Justa indicated that “a significant number of people evicted in Quinta do Mocho, or facing eviction orders, are not in default.”

The Vida Justa movement reported today that eviction orders were issued for 200 families in the municipal housing neighborhood of Quinta do Mocho, Loures, where “daily evictions” have been occurring since last week.
In response to Vida Justa’s complaint, Loures Municipal Council denied the claims, describing them as “falsehoods, omissions, and errors” regarding alleged eviction orders in Quinta do Mocho. They argued that out of a total of 615 eviction procedures planned for the entire municipality, 269 occur among residents of the Terraços da Ponte Urbanization (formerly Quinta do Mocho).
The council stated at the time that since the beginning of the year, there have been 25 lease terminations due to contractual breaches in the neighborhood, “after exhausting all procedural stages,” also ensuring that “all tenants involved in resolution procedures were duly notified, in writing, with the possibility of a hearing and rectification.”

The Loures Council assured that “mass evictions are not occurring, nor is there any program for daily evictions” in the municipal housing neighborhood of Quinta do Mocho, contrary to the claims made on Thursday by the Vida Justa movement.
