A second suspect involved in the assault of an off-duty Public Security Police (PSP) officer on the night of July 6 has been detained by authorities in Setúbal. The two identified individuals are currently in preventive detention.
The attack, confirmed by a police source, occurred after the officer, who was off-duty, was recognized by a group of five individuals in an entertainment area of the city.
“The officer was then violently assaulted, as well as the individuals accompanying him,” detailed the PSP in a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday.
The statement also noted that the assailants stole the officer’s mobile phone.
On the same night, authorities arrested one of the assailants, who was placed under preventive detention after appearing in the Setúbal Court for a preliminary hearing.
On Wednesday, the PSP announced the recovery of the officer’s mobile phone and the detention of a second suspect, outside of the act of committing the crime.

The first assailant faced a preliminary judicial hearing in the Setúbal Court and was similarly subjected to the most severe preventive measure.
The PSP continues its investigation.
This operation was conducted by the Setúbal District Command, through the Criminal Investigation Squad of the Setúbal Police Division.
