The National Arts Plan announced today that several Portuguese museums and monuments, including the Fortaleza de Sagres, the Museu José Malhoa in Caldas da Rainha, the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea — Museu do Chiado in Lisbon, the Museu Nacional de Conímbriga, the Museu Nacional Frei Manuel do Cenáculo in Évora, and the Museu Nacional Resistência e Liberdade, are formally joining the CISOC initiative on Tuesday at a ceremony held at the Museu de Conímbriga.
The CISOC protocol is part of the Strategic Plan of the National Arts Plan (PNA).
CISOC aims to “consider the impact a cultural organization, such as a museum, theater, or institution, can have on the community”, stated Paulo Pires do Vale, the PNA commissioner, in an interview in June of last year.
“This means we have created a tool, a kind of ‘kit’, available online today, which allows institutions to self-evaluate their current impact, assess themselves through a set of criteria, and understand how they can modify their actions. In some ways, it serves as a management tool to envision the future,” he added.
According to Paulo Pires do Vale, the ‘kit’ is multifaceted and complex, yet it supports the institutions’ work effectively.
The PNA’s statement reveals that CISOC targets “cultural organizations, regardless of their nature or supervisory authority”.
“This heterogeneous universe encompasses different realities and typologies, including museums, monuments, libraries, archives, theaters, cinema theaters, and cultural centers. It also includes various administrative links, such as direct and indirect public administration, municipalities, public corporate entities, foundations, private entities, and the third sector,” it explains.
