The PJ is investigating the crash of a helicopter that resulted in the deaths of five GNR military personnel in Lamego. The pilot is under suspicion for dangerous driving and has been named as a suspect.
The firefighting helicopter crashed into the Douro River in August last year. The accident claimed the lives of five members from the GNR’s Emergency Protection and Relief Unit, aged between 29 and 45.
The forestry firefighting helicopter fell into the Douro River at 12:50 pm on Friday, near the locality of Samodães, Lamego. It was carrying a pilot and a team of five military personnel from the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPC), who were returning from a fire in the municipality of Baião.
The pilot, the sole survivor, was rescued from the Douro River with injuries and transported to the hospital.
