Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated French-Canadian filmmaker, is set to direct the next installment in the ‘James Bond’ series, announced Amazon MGM Studios on Wednesday.
“Amazon MGM Studios appoints Denis Villeneuve as director of the next James Bond film. Tanya Lapointe will serve as executive producer. As previously announced, Amy Pascal and David Heyman will be producers,” Amazon MGM Studios stated on social media.
In a statement, quoted by Variety, the ‘Dune’ director expressed his enthusiasm as a “devoted fan of the secret agent” 007 and promised to “honor the tradition while paving the way for many new missions.”
“Some of my earliest cinema-going memories are linked to ‘James Bond.’ I grew up watching ‘James Bond’ films with my father, from ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I am a devoted fan of the secret agent. To me, it is sacred ground,” he stated. “I intend to honor the tradition while paving the way for many new missions. It’s a tremendous responsibility, but also incredibly exciting and a great honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for the trust.”
Mike Hopkins, the director of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, described Villeneuve as a “master of cinema” and assured that ‘James Bond’ would be “in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers.”
“It is an honor for us that Denis has agreed to direct the next chapter of James Bond. He is a master of cinema, whose filmography speaks volumes. From ‘Blade Runner 2049’ to ‘Arrival’ and the ‘Dune’ films, he has created captivating worlds, dynamic visuals, complex characters, and most importantly, the immersive storytelling that global audiences crave to experience in cinemas. James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers, and we can’t wait to embark on the next 007 adventure,” he said.

Denis Villeneuve has been nominated for the Oscars twice, the leading awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States, but has never won. However, the film ‘Dune’, also directed by him, won six Oscars in the 2022 edition.
It should be noted that ‘007 – No Time to Die’, the latest film in the ‘James Bond’ saga, which now comprises a total of 25 official feature films, was released in 2021.
The secret agent has been portrayed by six different actors—Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig—and the new film will feature a new James Bond. However, despite speculations about actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton, no name has been confirmed yet.
