The government announced today after the Cabinet meeting that a new legal framework, aimed at promoting active aging, includes provisions for dignified and adequate housing, special healthcare, and medication access, alongside measures to prevent violence and promote senior volunteerism.
The proposed legislation also seeks to enhance home care support by fostering better coordination among medical care providers, social and health sector institutions, and local municipalities.
The provisions of the Senior Citizens’ Statute were approved by parliament on January 17, following initial approval by the Cabinet in October 2024.
The Minister for Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security, who introduced the document to parliament in January, stated the aim is to consolidate existing rights into a single legal framework while developing public policies that encourage a socially valued active aging process.
