“Those difficulties, those problems have intensified and are much harder to overcome today. There is a total lack of coordination in relation to emergency medical management. State entities are passing their responsibilities to other sectors of administration. Defense says it’s Health’s responsibility, Health says it’s Defense’s,” José Luís Carneiro told reporters, on the sidelines of the presentation of the municipal candidate for the Bombarral council.
Therefore, the Socialist Party (PS) requested that the Chief of Staff of the Air Force be urgently heard in Parliament.
The socialists want “to know what plans are in place for emergency medical support, and what courses are available to support this emergency transport,” stated José Luís Carneiro.
The socialist leader, who aims to bring the issue to the debate on the State of the Nation on Thursday, argued that there is “a complete failure between the Government’s commitment and the current reality, which shows merely a lack of preparedness and planning to ensure medical emergencies.”
Recently, the Government had to resort to the Air Force to ensure emergency transport, a temporary solution given the inability of the company awarded the service to start operations on July 1, as anticipated in the contract signed with INEM.
