A source from the Public Security Police (PSP) stated that the suspect was brought before the Évora Court for initial judicial interrogation today.
The court imposed the most severe pre-trial detention measure, and the man, who was arrested in Estremoz in the Évora district, was taken to the Elvas Prison in the Portalegre district, where he will await the proceedings.
On Thursday, the Évora District Command of the PSP announced in a statement that the suspect was arrested by the Estremoz police station for committing domestic violence.
At the time, a police source clarified that the victim is the suspect’s wife, noting that the assault took place in their home.
“Following a phone call reporting a possible domestic violence situation inside a residence, police officers quickly arrived at the scene,” the statement said.
At the scene, “they made contact with the victim, who had visible marks on her face,” it read.
However, according to the PSP, “unexpectedly, the suspect, in the presence of the police, tried to force the victim back inside the residence against her will.”
“The police promptly intervened with the suspect, leading to his restraint and arrest,” the police added.
Subsequently, the police noticed that “the victim had several impact marks on her body and that a domestic violence investigation was already underway involving both individuals.”
