Rain and cloudy sky: The weather this Saturday (and not only)

If you’re on vacation, particularly in the Center and South regions, the news may not be favorable, as light rain is expected on Saturday. The day will be mostly cloudy across mainland Portugal, with a slight increase in maximum temperatures, as forecasted by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The IPMA forecasts indicate generally very cloudy skies, gradually decreasing in cloudiness from the middle of the afternoon.

There will be periods of light rain, more likely in the Center and South regions until early afternoon, with wind blowing lightly to moderately (up to 30 km/h) from the west, occasionally strong (up to 40 km/h) along the southern coast of the Algarve during the afternoon, particularly in the eastern part.

Additionally, a slight drop in minimum temperatures is expected in the North and Center regions, along with a slight increase in maximum temperatures.

Minimum temperatures will range from 18 degrees in Faro to 12 degrees in Guarda. Maximum temperatures will vary between 20 degrees in Évora and Castelo Branco, and 21 degrees in Viana do Castelo.

What to expect for the week?

Yesterday, the IPMA also released its usual weekly forecast, explaining that next week (July 23 to 29), mainland Portugal will be under the influence of a northerly or northwesterly flow, causing a drop in temperatures and northwesterly winds.

In the western coastal area, the wind will blow at moderate to strong northwesterly winds, exceeding 30 km/h, especially south of Cabo Carvoeiro.

This Sunday, there will be some light precipitation, more significant in Minho, Douro Litoral, and Beira Litoral, a situation that will likely repeat at the end of the week. However, in coastal areas of the North and Center regions, until mid-morning, there will be considerable cloudiness, fog, and the possibility of drizzle.

Temperatures will register normal values for the season or slightly below normal on the western coast. Maximum temperatures will vary between 22 degrees to 29 degrees in areas close to the western coast, and above 30 degrees inland, rising to above 35 degrees in these regions from mid-week.
