From the IRS reduction to the support for appliances: The themes of the week

The government’s proposal to reduce IRS tax rates by 500 million euros this year has been approved in Parliament. This confirms a reduction for those with salaries up to 6,297 euros.

DECO PROTeste highlights that the “review of IRS rates provides for a reduction in income tax up to the 8th bracket.”

“Parliament has already approved a decrease in IRS between 0.4% and 0.6% in the first eight brackets. The government’s proposal still requires approval in the specialty by the Assembly of the Republic, but it anticipates a tax relief of 500 million euros in the coming months,” explains the consumer protection organization.

The government’s proposal to reduce IRS has been approved and is now with the specialty. Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento expects it to be greenlit this month, allowing increases to be paid retroactively in August or September.

“If all goes well, [they will be paid] in August and September with so-called retroactive payments, and then from October onwards, new tables reflecting the monthly reduction of the Personal Income Tax (IRS),” the minister stated to Portuguese journalists arriving at the Eurogroup meeting in Brussels.

Currently, the government is awaiting the specialty debate of the proposal so that new tables can be published.

The Social Security has launched a new website, as announced last week. This new portal combines the informational site of the Social Security Institute (ISS) and the Direct Social Security.

“Welcome to the new Social Security portal, which combines the Information Portal and Direct Social Security into a single site, reorganizing content and facilitating information search,” stated a communiqué released by the organization.

Castelo Branco, Santa Maria da Feira, and Viseu lead the list of the most affordable municipalities to rent a house in Portugal, according to data released on Tuesday by Idealista.

“Of the 25 cheapest municipalities to rent a house in Portugal, Castelo Branco ranks first. Owners in this municipality ask a median of 6.8 euros per square meter (euros/m2), being the cheapest square meter in the country,” reads a communiqué accessed by Notícias ao Minuto.

According to the real estate platform, the “ranking of the five cheapest municipalities is completed by Santa Maria da Feira (7.1 euros/m2), Viseu (8 euros/m2), Covilhã (8.1 euros/m2), and Barcelos (8.3 euros/m2).”

The E_Lar program, which will support families in acquiring more efficient appliances, will start “very soon,” the Ministry of Environment assured Notícias ao Minuto. It was initially expected to begin in mid-June.

“The E_Lar – Energy Efficiency and Thermal Comfort program will start very soon. The slight delay from the initial forecast results from the current priority of the Climate Agency: to conclude the evaluation and payment of applications to the Support Program for More Sustainable Buildings (PAES 2023),” a source from the ministry informed Notícias ao Minuto.
