Azorean Rogério Gomes Matoso has died. He was 60 years old.

Rogério Gomes Moitoso, a native of Praia do Norte in Faial island, passed away today due to illness at the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel island, as reported by the regional executive.

Rogério Gomes Moitoso held a degree in Organization and Business Management from the University of the Azores and a postgraduate degree in Economic and Business Sciences from Universidade Católica. He was appointed as the Deputy Regional Director of Budget and Treasury of the Azores on September 21, 2022.

In a statement mourning his passing, the President of the Azorean Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), José Manuel Bolieiro, expressed his “deep sorrow and profound sense of consternation” upon receiving the “sad news” of the Deputy Regional Director’s death.

“Throughout a life dedicated to public service, Rogério Moitoso distinguished himself with his technical competence, the rigor with which he performed his duties, and, above all, the integrity, discretion, and profoundly humane manner with which he always served the Autonomous Region of the Azores,” he added.

According to Bolieiro, Rogério Moitoso had a “solid and exemplary” career in the Regional Public Administration and was a “constant and respected presence in various technical structures and bodies supporting the Regional Government, participating with a high sense of mission in fundamental processes for the credibility and balance of regional public finances.”

His professional path was characterized by “a constant willingness to collaborate, share knowledge, and contribute to constructive solutions, always with an attitude of dialogue, consideration, and a sense of responsibility.”

Besides his professional qualities, Bolieiro remarked that “a memory remains of a pleasant, loyal colleague genuinely committed to the common good.”

“May the example and legacy of Rogério Moitoso endure in the memory of all who had the privilege of knowing him,” concluded the Azorean executive president.

The Azores Regional Delegation of the Order of Economists also expressed its “profound sorrow” over the death of Rogério Gomes Moitoso.

“He graduated in Organization and Business Management from the University of the Azores and dedicated more than three decades to regional public administration, where he held positions of great responsibility in the finance sector, making a notable contribution to the development and modernization of the financial policies of the Autonomous Region of the Azores,” stated a note of condolence published on Facebook.
