The official page of a local health authority has revealed that water quality monitoring tests at a beach in the district of Aveiro and the Porto Metropolitan Area showed high levels of intestinal enterococci and/or E. coli bacteria. These bacteria can lead to urinary infections, gastroenteritis, or other health issues.
The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Espinho confirmed this information, noting that the advisory against swimming is intended to protect public health until further notice.
Swimming activities should resume only after new tests show no harmful elements for human health. Until then, the APA advises residents and visitors not to swim at Silvalde beach.
