More comfortable, quieter, or even safer, there are tips to help you choose the best seat on the plane. If you’re going on vacation, this article is for you.
“Choosing a seat on the plane may involve an extra cost, depending on the airline. However, the investment could be worth it if you can enjoy a more comfortable journey,” explains DECO PROTeste.
Do you need more space? Or a seat with less noise? Follow these tips from the consumer protection organization to find the best seats on the plane:
- More legroom: “Generally, seats by the emergency exit have more legroom. In some airlines, they can be reserved for an additional fee. You might also choose a window or aisle seat, which may incur extra costs. Airlines could charge you to change your seat before boarding. Although they might be more expensive, seats at the front of the cabin can also offer more legroom.”
- Seats with less turbulence: “Seats near the wings are more stable, making them suitable for those who feel uncomfortable in the air, especially in moments of instability.”
- Less cramped seats: “In some airlines, standard seats can be slightly narrower and, therefore, less comfortable. However, seats in the front rows of certain classes, such as economy, might offer more space. It’s more comfortable for the passenger, although the fare might be higher.”
- Where to sit if you don’t want to socialize: “Look for seats at the tail – they are less sought after by most passengers. With luck, there will be an empty seat next to you, allowing you to stretch your legs.”
- Last attempt for the ideal seat: “If you feel cramped or are disturbed by another passenger, ask a flight attendant or fellow passenger if you can change seats. It’s best to do this at the start of the flight, before takeoff. If you can’t, try again later. Avoid times when the crew is too busy (such as serving meals).”
- Location for a faster disembarkation: “Front rows, closer to the entrance and exit of the aircraft, are sought after by those in a hurry to disembark. It’s particularly useful in the early morning hours when traffic is heavier.”
- To avoid: “Near the bathroom and meal preparation area, the last row can be noisier. Often, the seats are less reclinable and less comfortable.”
