The Watermelon Festival is a tribute to local agricultural culture, celebrated over three days in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, highlighting watermelon as the seasonal fruit.
Throughout the event, there will be musical performances, discussions, street entertainment, exhibitions of agricultural machinery, regional products, live cooking sessions, competitions, and watermelon races.
On Saturday, the traditional Watermelon Sculpture Contest will take center stage, awarding prizes to the top three participants.
Live cooking demonstrations, singing challenges, and the weighing and awarding of the heaviest watermelon prize will also take place.
The evening performance lineup includes Némanus at 23:30.
The festival kicks off on Friday at 19:30 with the discussion “Life Stories — The Culture of Watermelon,” featuring testimonials from Ladoeiro residents.
Following this, a grand night of Fado begins at 22:00, with Blaya taking the stage from 23:30.
The final day of the festival, Sunday, includes more live cooking sessions, popular watermelon races, and performances by various traditional music groups.
The festival concludes at 22:00 with a special moment of traditional Portuguese singing challenges.
The Watermelon Festival is organized by the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, Idanha-a-Nova, and the Parish Council of Ladoeiro.
