The world will turn its eyes towards Hollywood this week as a Summer Entertainment Auction is set to take place, organized by Heritage Auctions.
Running from Tuesday to Saturday, June 19, the auction will feature several cinematic artifacts, such as the cap worn by Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) in ‘Home Alone’ and the whip used by Harrison Ford in ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’.
“These are not just props. They are mythical items,” explained the auction house’s vice-president, Joe Maddalena. “They tell the story of Hollywood’s great moments, one piece at a time,” he added during a press briefing last month.
The whip used by Harrison Ford had already had quite a journey before reaching the auction house. During the UK premiere of the Indiana Jones film in 1989, Ford gifted the whip to then-Prince Charles, now King Charles III.
The whip was later presented to Princess Diana, who was married to Charles at that time. Diana eventually donated the whip to the auction house.
Another “mythical” item up for auction is the Rosebud sled from the film ‘Citizen Kane’, a crucial element in Orson Welles’ masterpiece.
Also available will be a blue velvet suit worn by Mike Myers while portraying Austin Powers in ‘Goldmember’, alongside a Citroën 2CV driven by Roger Moore in his role as James Bond in ‘For Your Eyes Only’.
This is not the first occasion where iconic cinema items have gone to auction. In 2022, a superhero costume worn by George Clooney in the 1997 film ‘Batman & Robin’ was sold at auction.
The item included the mask, a full-length cape with clasps, the muscled chest plate displaying the superhero emblem, leggings, gloves, and boots.
Earlier this March, Sotheby’s auctioned an original model of E.T. created for Steven Spielberg’s cult classic ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’.
