A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon, as reported by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto on Wednesday, July 16.
According to the security force, the events date back to April 28 and occurred in Oeiras. Following a previous disagreement, the suspect “violently assaulted” an individual using a dagger, delivering “several blows to vital areas,” including the chest and neck.
The PSP is certain that the assailant intended to kill.
The victim was subsequently rescued and urgently transported to the hospital, where they remained hospitalized for some time.
Later, on July 6, the suspect was involved in another incident, this time with a firearm. The man reportedly seized a shotgun during an altercation between third parties, fired a shot into the air before fleeing, and concealed the weapon in a residence.
Given the severity of the incidents and the risk to the community, the police initiated “urgent measures” to capture the suspect, who, according to the PSP, fled to Switzerland.
Upon learning that he was returning to Portugal, the authorities organized a police operation at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest.
Following the arrest, search and seizure warrants were executed at various residences of the accused, where a rifle with a telescopic sight was seized.
The detainee has since been presented for initial judicial interrogation and was subjected to the most severe coercive measure, pre-trial detention.
