Strong and irregular wind hinders firefighting in Souto Maior in Sabrosa

The commander of the Sabrosa Firefighters, José Barros, reported that as of 4:30 PM, the fire was “uncontrolled and with several fronts,” including three major fronts and various projections.

To combat the blaze, 200 personnel were deployed, supported by 60 vehicles and eight aerial units, one of which was a coordination unit.

“We are mobilizing the available resources; the wind is very intense and erratic, and it is progressing in various directions at the moment,” stated José Barros.

The commander noted that there were no reports of injuries or burned homes.

The president of the Sabrosa Municipal Council, Helena Lapa, expressed concern about the fire that broke out at 1:20 PM in Feitais and later spread to Souto Maior, where it has already reached several parts of the village, including yards, woods, and a pine forest.

The mayor stated that, as a precaution due to the thick smoke, six individuals were evacuated from their homes and taken to stay with relatives.
