The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) has detained a 31-year-old woman suspected of starting a forest fire in the municipality of Vila Real on July 2, the police force announced today.
In a statement, the PJ explained that the fire occurred on July 2 at 3:00 PM, consuming an area primarily covered by underbrush.
The fire also endangered some urban buildings that “were only spared due to the quick detection and subsequent intervention by firefighters,” the PJ stated.
The detainee will face a first judicial interrogation for the application of potential coercive measures.
