In a statement to the Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários (CMVM), the owner of TVI disclosed the “existence of negotiations between Media Capital and a venture capital company for Media Capital to acquire a majority stake in Newsplex, S.A.”
This company operates in the press industry and owns the publications Sol and newspaper I.
No further details were provided by the owner of TVI.
According to information on the Transparency Portal of the Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (ERC), Newsplex is owned 98.2% by Sunny Media, Unipessoal Lda, with the remaining 1.79% held by Barod Ltd.
Sunny Media is controlled by the Alpac Alpac Capital España ETVE fund, which is owned by Alpac DWC LLC.
Alpac DWC’s shareholders include Pedro Vargas Santos David, holding 66.67%, and Luís Santos, with 33.33%.
The Alpac Capital fund purchased the majority stake in Euronews in July 2022 and acquired the titles Nascer do Sol and i.
“Pedro Vargas David and Luís Santos of Alpac Capital signed with Mário Ramires, the current owner, to purchase the newspapers Nascer do Sol and i as a contribution to a freer, more ambitious, and more plural Portugal,” stated a communication released at the time.
