The National Maritime Authority (AMN) announced that search operations had concluded by this afternoon without any evidence of a human presence in the wastewater collector.
The AMN, in collaboration with the Portimão Harbor Master’s Office and the Local Command of the Portimão Maritime Police, coordinated with the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command to conduct the search. This operation was initiated on Wednesday following suspicions of a person trapped in a wastewater pipeline and underwater outfall at Inatel beach in Albufeira.
The operation was launched after a report at 4:00 PM when locals claimed to have heard cries for help and noticed several movements from one of the pipeline covers.
The note further detailed that search efforts were carried out on-site by members of the Albufeira Volunteer Firefighters, the Albufeira Municipal Civil Protection Service, the Albufeira GNR detachment, as well as by crew members from the Quarteira Lifeboat Station and elements from the Local Command of the Portimão Maritime Police.
