The cost of the food basket has increased again over the past week. Updated data from DECO PROTeste indicates that the value of the basket rose by almost six euros, reaching the highest level since 2022.
DECO PROTeste states in a communiqué that the “essential basket of 63 products costs 245.79 euros this week”. Notably, a year ago, the same basket “cost 17.13 euros less.”
Between July 9 and July 16, “there is a difference of 5.67 euros when comparing the same basket on the two days”, marking an increase of 2.36%. Furthermore, from January 1 to July 16, there is a 4.07% rise, equating to a difference of 9.62 euros.
Moreover, between January 5, 2022, and July 16, 2025, the difference is 58.09 euros when comparing the same basket on the two days, resulting in an increase of 30.95%.
With the arrival of summer, an ‘extra’ analysis of the food basket
With summer’s arrival comes a new analysis conducted by DECO PROTeste, specifically focusing on products most used during this season.
This ‘extra’ analysis is seasonal and released weekly, similar to what is done with the 63 essential items food basket that the consumer protection association has been examining for years.
