
In 2024, there were 477 fatalities on Portuguese roads, marking a decrease from the previous year when 642 deaths were recorded, as well as from 2019, the year set by the European Commission as a benchmark for assessing road accident trends during the current decade, according to data from the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR).
Overall, last year, 38,037 accidents with victims were recorded, resulting in 477 fatalities, 2,756 serious injuries, and 44,618 minor injuries in the mainland and autonomous regions.
