
Last year, 156,325 housing units were transacted, marking a 14.5% increase compared to 2023, according to INE in its 2024 Construction and Housing Statistics.
The statistical authority’s data show a general growth in construction and housing in 2024, spanning licensing, completion of works, sales, valuations, prices, and rents.
During this period, approximately 140,000 bank appraisals were conducted as part of mortgage loan granting, the highest record since 2009, with a 32.1% increase from 2023.
In 2024, 25,470 buildings were licensed in the country, representing a 7.2% rise from the previous year (-6.9% in 2023), and 41,851 units were licensed, up 5.4% compared to 2023 (39,708 units; +0.7%).
Of the licensed units, 34,637 were new constructions for family housing, reflecting a 4.7% increase from the prior year (33,079; +3.9%).
INE estimates that 17,380 buildings were completed, a 1.6% growth compared to the previous year (-0.2% in 2023, with 17,111 buildings).
Moreover, 28,494 units were completed in the country, 6.8% more than the previous year (+7% in 2023; 26,671 units).
