The IL has disclosed that PS, PCP, BE, PAN, and JPP will not attend the closing of the liberal party’s major meeting taking place in Alcobaça, despite the party indicating it invited all political parties with parliamentary representation.
Representing the Government, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Carlos Abreu Amorim will attend, along with PSD deputies João Antunes dos Santos and Célia Freira, and Paulo Mateus and José Mendes from the Alcobaça district.
Chega will be represented by its Secretary-General and Deputy Rui Paulo Sousa, while from CDS-PP, Vice President Telmo Correia, Sofia Cardoso from Leiria district leadership, and Nelson Plácido from the Alcobaça political committee will be present.
Among left-wing parties, only Livre will attend the closing of the IL’s X National Convention, represented by officials Filipe Honório and Isabel Faria.
Iniciativa Liberal is holding its X National Convention today with 985 registered members expected to elect Mariana Leitão as the next party leader, succeeding Rui Rocha, who has been in position since 2023.
The convention commenced around 10:30 a.m. in Alcobaça (Leiria) and is scheduled to conclude around 9:00 p.m. with a speech by the new IL leader.
Mariana Leitão, the sole candidate for leadership, is projected to be elected as IL president, becoming the party’s fifth leader and its first female leader, succeeding Rui Rocha, who resigned on May 31, citing insufficient results in the legislative elections.
