The Viana do Castelo-based company specializing in heritage restoration has announced its participation as a partner in both conservation and restoration interventions and as a co-funding entity for the project.
The project has an execution plan slated for completion by March 2026.
Atelier SAMTHIAGO stated that the “Memorias y Patrimonios” project aims to aid the recovery of personal items with historical, artistic, documentary, and social significance.
This extreme weather event, which resulted in over 220 deaths, also inflicted significant damage on cultural heritage.
“Some assets were completely lost, and some historical monuments and objects require urgent restoration as their degradation continues and progresses actively,” was explained.
This project, funded by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain and developed by the Spanish Association of Conservators-Restorers (ACRE), includes collaboration with various partners through the guidance and intervention of conservation and restoration professionals, while also promoting community volunteer involvement and social action.
“The available funding and networked collaboration of specialized companies allow interventions on this heritage without any cost to citizens and the affected municipalities: Paiporta, Torrent, Aldaia, Alaquàs, and Picanya,” they emphasized.
The company Atelier SAMTHIAGO was involved in the restoration of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain in 2021.
On October 29, 2024, various regions of Spain, including the Valencian Community, were influenced by an “isolated high-altitude depression,” a meteorological phenomenon known as DANA (DINA in Portuguese), which caused torrential rains, floods, and significant damages.
Besides the over 224 mortalities, the storm caused damage to homes, supply infrastructure, communications, and transport.
