“In recent days, [TACV] has faced some challenges in the regular functioning of domestic air routes due to operational issues. For safety reasons, several flights have been canceled and rescheduled, affecting connections to certain islands,” the company stated in a message without further details.
TACV is providing “maritime transportation as an alternative,” especially for those with connecting flights abroad, it added.
The state-owned company, which was previously focused exclusively on international flights, took over domestic operations at the beginning of 2024 due to issues with the last service concession.
Passenger movement between islands increased by 56% in the first quarter of this year, compared to the previous year, reaching around 211,000, according to data from the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC).
Despite the strengthening of leased aircraft, and TACV and travel agents noting improvements, issues with air connections persist.
Business leaders and institutional partners in the country have emphasized the need to improve transportation between islands, and the Government informed the Budget Support Group in June that the certification of the Cabo Verde Airlines (LACV), a public branch exclusively for domestic flights, is expected by September.
