Two men have been arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in the Alentejo region on Thursday morning, July 24, on separate charges of rape.
The first crime, as revealed by the PJ in a statement, occurred on July 8 in Évora.
The suspect, a 55-year-old man, allegedly raped a 35-year-old woman using a knife, causing injuries that required hospital treatment. The crime took place in the suspect’s residence, who is acquainted with the victim and resides in the same area.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old man allegedly raped an 11-year-old child on two occasions, on July 3 and July 11.
The first incident reportedly occurred in Nazaré, where both the victim’s family and the perpetrator’s family were on vacation. The second took place in Reguengos de Monsaraz, at the suspect’s family home.
The young girl disclosed the incidents to her mother, who immediately reported them to the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The case has since been passed to the PJ. Inspectors noted that “coordination between the Local Criminal Investigation Unit of Évora, the PJ entity directing the investigation, and the PJ’s Scientific Police Laboratory was crucial in collecting and obtaining evidence, corroborating both suspicions.”
The detained individuals will now be brought before an initial interrogation to determine the appropriate measures of coercion.
