The fire that broke out early today in Gração, São Jorge, and Ermelo, within the Arcos de Valdevez municipality, was reported as under control at 10:28 AM, but reignited around 4:00 PM, involving 135 personnel and four aerial resources by 7:46 PM.
The Volunteer Firefighters of Arcos de Valdevez stated that the forest fire in the Union of Parishes of São Jorge and Ermelo is being fought with the support of 39 vehicles.
Contacted by Lusa, the Mayor of Arcos de Valdevez in the Viana do Castelo district, Olegário Gonçalves, explained that the fire reignited “due to intense heat and wind,” but assured that “there are no homes at risk.”
