The National Republican Guard (GNR) seized war-grade firearms, large quantities of drugs, and thousands of liters of gasoline during an operation in Aljezur, located in the district of Faro, this Friday.
A statement issued this afternoon to Notícias ao Minuto described the operation as part of a patrol action conducted during the early morning hours, during which the GNR detected a vessel approaching the coast, transferring bales of burlap to light commercial vehicles.
The GNR further stated that immediate police procedures were activated by the Coastal Control Detachment (DCC) of Sines, supported by the DCC of Olhão, leading to the interception of the suspects.
The operation led to two arrests for drug trafficking via maritime routes: two men aged 29 and 57.
In detail, the authorities seized three war-grade firearms, 1,027.50 kilograms of hashish, 98 jerricans containing 2,450 liters of gasoline, 74 rounds of ammunition, and three vehicles.
The detainees were made defendants, and the case has been reported to the Judicial Court of Lagos.
