Pursues woman, flees from PSP and has “aggressive” reaction. Ended up arrested.

A 59-year-old man was arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday, July 23, under suspicion of committing the crimes of resistance, coercion against an official, and disobedience.

In a statement, the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP explained that a woman approached the station “reporting that she was being pursued by an individual,” adding that the “individual was at that very moment at the entrance” of the police premises.

Based on this information, officers went outside “to identify the suspect,” who was then approached by the agents.

The man was informed of the reason for the approach and asked for identification, but he refused “to provide his details.”

“Faced with the refusal, the suspect was informed by the police that he was committing the crime of disobedience, at which point he began to flee,” the statement reads.

The PSP officers managed to intercept the suspect, who reacted aggressively by “throwing punches.”

“Faced with the threat and aggressiveness exhibited by the suspect, physical force deemed strictly necessary was used, as well as low-lethality coercive means (TASER) to immobilize the individual,” the statement added.

The detainee, who has since undergone an initial judicial interrogation, was placed under a term of identity and residence.
