Twelve individuals were arrested on Saturday in Albufeira during a special criminal prevention operation conducted by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).
The arrests were related to various crimes, including drug trafficking, illegal provision of private security services, possession of prohibited weapons (specifically bladed weapons), and driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or exceeding 1.2 g/l.
The Territorial Command of Faro stated that the operation focused on combating crime, particularly in the main nightlife areas of the municipality.
The GNR clarified these actions were part of operational efforts aimed at enhancing public security for all visitors to Albufeira, particularly around nightlife venues, to prevent and suppress illegal behavior.
Besides the arrests, the GNR issued 19 administrative offense notices during inspections of nightlife establishments, 15 notices related to street vending, seven notices for drug use, 14 notices under Albufeira’s municipal code of conduct, and 22 road-related offense notices.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of 19 doses of cocaine, 35 doses of hashish, eight doses of marijuana, 11.77g of MDMA, 3.08g of ecstasy, and two bladed weapons.
The operation was supported by military personnel from various units of the Territorial Command of Faro, including the Intervention and Public Order Group, the National Traffic Unit, and the Coastal and Border Control Unit, with additional support from the Municipal Police of Albufeira, the statement concluded.
