The PSP announced in a statement that officers from the Braga Command intercepted the man late Saturday morning.
“Following the arrest in Braga, the suspect was taken to Braga Prison, thus executing the arrest warrant previously issued by the competent judicial authority,” the PSP added.
A GNR source told Lusa the escape occurred on July 18 when the suspect was heard in his first judicial interrogation. At the end, he reportedly told a court employee he would speak with his lawyer.
“He exited through a side door and fled,” allegedly using a bicycle he found nearby, the source added.
The suspect, with a criminal record, had initially been detained by the GNR on July 16 in Marinhas, Esposende, along with another man and a woman.
At that time, the GNR also recovered a stolen vehicle.
