
Gabriela Amaral e Silva from Colégio Moderno in Lisbon and David Montenegro from Escola Secundária João Gonçalves Zarco in Matosinhos were awarded bronze medals.
In a statement, the Order of Biologists announced that student Joana Vilarinho from Escola Secundária António Damásio in Lisbon received a certificate of merit.
The International Biology Olympiad was held in the Philippines, from July 20 to 24, with participation from 80 countries.
The Portuguese team, coordinated by professors Pedro Oliveira and Maria Margarida Roque, also included André Ferreira from Escola Secundária Lima-de-Faria in Cantanhede, noted for his dedicated and committed participation, according to the professional order.
Portugal will also compete in the Ibero-American Biology Olympiad in Colombia from September 7 to 14 this year.
The four students selected for this biology competition are Gabriela Pité Amaral e Silva (Colégio Moderno, Lisbon), Daniel Nunes Marques (Escola Secundária Alves Martins, Viseu), Matilde Domingos Luís (Colégio Moderno, Lisbon), and Kaixin Cheng (Escola Básica e Secundária de São Martinho do Porto, Alcobaça).
The Order of Biologists congratulated “all the students and teachers involved” in these international competitions and emphasized the “importance for the recognition of excellence in biology education” in Portugal.
